Answer

·  What is the weather like in your Region?
All our activities are connected in some way or the other with the weather, that is why weather is so important to us. You can see current climatic information of Balmaceda, our airport situated just 38 km to the South of our headquarters, if you click  here. But our weather changes with the geographic features and thus can be divided into A) coastal clima, B) mountain clima C)weather behind the mountain ranges and D) weather of the Patagonian Pampa.
A) Weather on the coasts and in the fjordsystems is usually more steady despite occasionally occuring strong winds. Temperatures are mostly above freezing even in the winter, and one can expect cool summers. precipitation is high, rising upto 4m of rain or more  in some coastal places. Winds are, as in general more strong in spring and autumn time, with periods of low or now winds in winter.
B) Mountain climate: Here it also depends on which sides of the mountain range you are, towards the Pacific Ocean or sheltered from its influences of higher precipitatations and temperatures. In the mountains, you will feel a sensation of a wet cold, if on the pacific side, and mostly have a "drier" experience on the sheltered side.
C) Weather in the grand extensions of the valleys, rivers and lakes is distinct as it is much drier (about a meter of rain a year) and pleasant. Prevailing winds come from the Northwest, funneled and intensified by valley systems orientated in this direction.
In summer, weather can be very pleasant and warm for weeks at a time. Sometimes it got too warm in the latest years, but then one goes a bit inside the mountain ranges, and cools down in a small lagoon. The big lakes we have got (Lago General Carrera/Buenos Aires - ex Lago Chelenko and Lago Cochrane/Pueyrredón) regulate the weather very well and produce a microclimate. So when it might be rainy and coldish in Coyhaique, the temperature in our "adventure playground" at the Carrera lakeside is a pleasant 10 degrees more and mostly there is sun around ;)
D) when one travels more to the East, towards Argentina, the temperature differences between the seasons and between day and night increase, and precipitations decrease. In the valle de la luna for example you can get quite chilly at night, and in winter time this is probably not a good place to explore.
Weather in Patagonia is always changeable and at the best unpredictable. We can not tell you exactly how it will be when you are here, but always it is good measure to hope for the best and be prepared for most eventualities when it might get tough. We have had snow here in midsommer, and we have had a winter lately that could have been called "almost spring". In the equipment lists for the trips we will suggest what you should bring for the specific tours and projects.
If weather is too bad or dangerous for an activity we are planning or doing, we reserve the right to make necessary adjustments in plans and activities in order to prevent  threatening situations from happening to the group or individual, or equipment.

We would like to invest into an ethernet enabled weatherstation, so we could send our own data directly to the web from headquarters site for you to see. If you are interested in participating in this challenging project, please contact the team.
