Curanto

Curanto is a tradition which comes from the Isla Grande de Chiloe, X Region de los Lagos. The Chilotes "steam-cook" various seafood (shells) in the ground, without the need for a pot. We want to thank the host of this Curanto, Sr. Eduardo Casanova of Coyhaique, for letting us participate and taking photos of this very special event- Gracias Don Eduardo, muy rico fue tu Curanto!

Confluencia Rios Baker y NefThe confluence of the rivers Baker and Nef is a usual tourist attraction, the Baker changes its color here, due to the influence of more glacial silt from the Nef river

Fourth step finising offAssuring the airtightness of the steam pot, so it can now "steamcook" itself.

Marble CavernsThe formations are best visited by boat. A kayak trip can also be organised.

Third stepthe food is covered with linnen bags (used for flour originally), to prevent the plastic - see next pic to be stuck to the food- it would also be possible to use Nalca leaves - a rhubarb like wild plant with giant leaves

Cerro Castillo from Lago Tamango-CentralIt is not as well known as the Torres del Paine - maybe better this way- but really an impressing creation of nature: Cerro Castillo Mountain Range is only an hours and a half drive away from Coyhaique.
