Curanto

Curanto is a tradition which comes from the Isla Grande de Chiloe, X Region de los Lagos. The Chilotes "steam-cook" various seafood (shells) in the ground, without the need for a pot. We want to thank the host of this Curanto, Sr. Eduardo Casanova of Coyhaique, for letting us participate and taking photos of this very special event- Gracias Don Eduardo, muy rico fue tu Curanto!

Rio Baker - Gem of PatagoniaThis river will look like on the photo only for a short time more. Some big companies plan to tame Chileans most caudalous river , putting at least two dams in. Flyfishing will then be impossible, as will be agriculture on flooded terrains.

Third stepthe food is covered with linnen bags (used for flour originally), to prevent the plastic - see next pic to be stuck to the food- it would also be possible to use Nalca leaves - a rhubarb like wild plant with giant leaves

Exploradores GlacierThe Exploradores Glacier is one of the glaciers which is more easily visited and walked on in our Region. You could drive up, and take a short hike onto a viewing platform, or experienced ice-trekkers with necessary equipment can use the tiny trail on the East of the Rio de los Deshielos, to reach the Glacier and walk on it
