Svalbard Glacier Cave Expedition

svalbard1 Small Expedition over the course of three weeks, target was the exploration of glacier caves in Spitsbergen. selforganized and -financed expedition.



The project was done by Dr. René Flach and Olaf Wündrich in the hope to find out more about the development and character of caves which develop in glaciers. The expedition started in Longyearbyen , on foot the participants went to the small settlement of Sveagruva. Closeby, at the glacier with the same name which is situated in the mountains above Sveagruva, they explored and entered some glacier caves. The trek back to Longyearbyen was done via a different valley system situated a bit further eastwards.
