Since long years Olaf has had a great interest in nature and outdoor activities. Together with his wife Jammie he started ColibriVentura to introduce and help others to experience the same things. When he is not guiding or progressing one of his other projects Olaf strives to extend and improve the portfolio of ColibriVentura, his aim is to ensure that you have a safe, exciting and memorable experience with ColibriVentura in Patagonia. You will arrive and be treated as a valued client and most likely, at the end of your trip leave as a friend to hopefully one-day return. This is Olafs aim which he achieves through his style of guiding. Olaf is happy to mediate between different cultures, attitudes, and levels of experience and fitness. You will see and experience a different Patagonia with Olaf, every day will be filled with new experiences and adventures.

During and after his studies of Mine Surveying and Geology at the TU Berkakademie Freiberg and the study of Mine Engineering at the University of Fairbanks, Alaska Olaf organised and led many expeditions from the glacier caves of Spitsbergan, to Alaska and to the tropical rainforests of Borneo and West Papua.

Somehow Patagonia and the XI Region of Aysen caught Olaf and he began to spend more and more time here. When, in December 2003 he heard about a terrible accident on the North Patagonian Ice Cap that had claimed the lives of seven young Chilean mountaineers he decided to move to Patagonia. Olaf’s decision was triggered by the desire to help to ensure that through good guiding practices and mountain/outdoor education future expeditions would never suffer this same fate.

At the present time Olaf is working to establish an outdoor school to further assist the region in gathering and growing specialist mountain guides to be able to provide a good safe centre for guiding and outdoor activities, he is also an official Ham Radio operator which is invaluable in the vastness of the Chilean Patagonia

Olaf and Jammie live, guide, explore and work in the XI Region of Aysen located in the heart of the Chilean Patagonia, together they are making things possible.
